Dr Sarvepali Radhakrishnan is one of the greatest Indian philosophers of all time. He was born in Tamil Nadu on September 5, 1888. He completed his education from the Presidency College of Chennai. He served as the Professor of Philosophy at Presidency College of Calcutta and Chennai. He even taught in Oxford University for a long time. He was sent to the erstwhile USSR as an Indian Ambassador.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was elected as the Vice-President of India and worked in that post for a decade. Later he was nominated as the Indian President and his Presidentship ran till 1967. He was conferred on the ‘Bharat Ratna’ too. As a token of respect for his contribution to the academic scene of India, his birthday is observed as Teachers’ Day in India. The great man passed away on 17 April 1975.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was an academic, philosopher, and statesman. He was born in a poor Brahmin family in Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu on September 5, 1888. He was a brilliant student since childhood. As he was poor, he completed most of his education with the help of scholarships. He completed his B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy from Madras Christian College.
Dr. Radhakrishnan authored his first book ‘The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore’ in 1917. He was appointed as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore in 1918. He served as the 1st Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 and 2nd President of India from 1962 to 1967. He won several awards including a knighthood in 1931, Bharat Ratna in 1954, and Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 1968. He was honoured with the membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963.
